Why does the leash need a knot?

The knot serves to prevent hand pinching when the rope suddenly tightens due to sudden pulling or lunging. The safety distance retained from the knot to the rope end allows for proper handling and control, making the knot a necessary safety feature.

Can the Peruvian knot on the rope be untied? Can I retie it myself after untying?

We don’t recommend untying it. It provides a safety distance to prevent the leash from tightening around your hand when your dog bolts. Once untied, the rope won’t adjust properly. To restore it, slowly pull both ends of the knot tight.
